What's left to do before the 2010 season? Regain our faith.

I'm still feeling under the weather, and I have another track meet today, so this will have to tide you over until Sunday...

We are approaching two weeks until pitchers and catchers report...

What is left for the Cubs to do before they open the gates in Mesa?

Well, if you ask me, they still need to get left handed bat for the middle infield, and a starter...

But the truth is, the only thing they are likely to do between now and spring training is get a setup man in the bullpen.

Jim Hendry and Lou Pineilla seem to be ok with Baker/Fontenot/Blanco to fill up the middle infield with Theriot this year, and that makes me a little sick.  And they seem to be ok with Spellcheck, Gorzelanny, Silva, and Marshall to be the 4th and 5th starters at the beginning of the season.

I've said before that this team is very similar to the group of guys that won 97 games in 2008.  But we are much less confident in the 2010 team's ability to win anything.

Why, because we have lost faith in the team's two highest paid players, Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Zambrano.

Most people felt pretty good going into that 2008 season. But right now the 2 real differences bwteen this team and that 2008 team personnel-wise is that Fontenot and Baker replace Jim Edmonds, and our 5th starter-d'jour replaces Jason Marquis.  Now I'm not taking into account that the Cubs picked up Rich Harden before the trade deadline and I'm also saying that Marlon Byrd and Mark DeRosa are the same player (offensively).  Bullpens are always a craps shoot any.

So all that's left to do before spring training is for us to regain our faith in our best players....and to replace Kerry Wood.
