Odds and ends: Gones, position shuffling and the Memorandum of understanding

Well, yesterday all the excitement was around the fact that the Cubs chose Mesa over Naples.

We also have learned that the Cubs are interested in Jonny Gomes for the 4th outfielder position. This is probably the best name that I've heard to fill that spot. Gomes is a solid player, and will probably come relatively cheap.

And because it appears the Cubs are looking to try to platoon Fukudome in right field, I'm going to hold off on doing an analysis of that position until next week.

Over at LOHO, Julie revealed some interesting alcohol enhanced info about Soriano or Fukudome moving to 2nd to make room for Jermaine Dye.

Back to Mesa for a sec...more details were released yesterday.

A .pdf of the "Memorandum of understanding" was made available, which basicly outlines the agreement for the new spring training facility.

As I read through it, the agreement appears to give the Cubs a substantial amount of control over the facility...more than they might have gotten from Naples.

Some other details:
-13,500 to 15,000 seat stadium
-Cubs in control of development around the facility
-To be completed by spring training in 2013
-Cubs to help with an effort to find another team for the existing HoHoKam and Fitch Park facilities
-50,000 sq foot, training facility with 2 practice fields, team offices, batting cages, pitching mounds, and living quarters
-4 other full sized practice fields near the training facility

Yep...

It's going to be a fun Friday, can't you sense it?
