Tall, skinny, loopy, lefty curveballer Sean Marshall has agreed on a contract with the Cubs for the 2010.
Financial numbers appear to be $950,000 for the season, which is slightly interesting as that is much closer to the $800,000 the Cubs offered than the $1.175 million that Marshall asked for.
Marshall will compete for, and probably lose, the 5th starter job during spring training.
The Cubs have only two remaining arbitration eligible players that have yet to be signed...Ryan Theriot and Carlos Marmol. Expect Theriot to be signed soon for about $3 million. The Cubs might consider going all the way to the hearing for Marmol, though, as the two sides are relatively far apart right now...$2.5 million vs. $1.75 million. This would be surprising as the Cubs haven't gone to an arbitration hearing with any player since 1993.
