Out of Options: Blanco traded to Texas

"Oh crap, I've been traded!"

Andy White (aka: Andres Blanco) was traded to the Texas Rangers today for a player to be named later (or cash).

Blanco was in a tough position.  He was out of options, meaning if he didn't make the 25 man roster, he would be placed on waivers.  With Mike Fontenot proving and adequate at shortstop, Blanco's chances of making the team this year evaporated relatively quickly.  The Cubs also were very much hoping that they could use Chad Tracy or Kevin Millar for that final roster spot anyway.

Not much more to say about that.  Texas had been looking for a utility infield...so it seems like a good fit.

With the backlog of middle infielder, the Cubs have some options in the minor leagues if anyone happens to go down at 2nd or shortstop.

Farewell, Andy.  Good luck in Texas.
