Cubs win first game of spring training...World Series a foregone conclusion now.

The Cubs won their first Cactus League game today over the Oakland A's by a score of 9 - 3.

Some highlights:

Derrek Lee hit a solo homer in the first. He also made 3 good plays on the infield.

Wells was sharp in 2 innings of work, not giving up a hit.

Marshall was sharp in 2 innings as well also not giving up a hit.

Castro came in at shortstop in the 5th inning. Didn't commit any errors. He hit a triple in the 8th, showing off some impressive speed around the bases.

Tyler Colvin hit a bomb and doubled twice.

Sam Fuld blooped a homer as well.

Some guy named Chad Snyder hit a homer also.

And Marlon Byrd looked very good with a homer and one other hit.

The Fook doubled.

Rule 5 pick, Mike Parisi gave up a homer, and some guy named J.R. Mathes gave up 2 runs. That was all the A's really did for the game.

Esmailin Caridad pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to finish.

Fontenot hurt himself on a play going to third (he was out on the play). I guess he'll be ok.

That's about it.

It was nice to hear Pat and Ron's voices. Everything is right again with the world.

I only heard the game...but it sounded like Castro really was impressive today and that D-Lee is in mid-season form. That's good news!

Tomorrow the Cubs play D-Backs at 2pm ET at HoHoKam again. Zambrano is set to start the game.
