First off, Jim Hendry is flying to Florida tomorrow for Ryan Theriot's arbitration hearing. The rumor is (via Bruce Levine of ESPN) that the hearing is going to be on Friday (they tend to keep these things quiet up until right before the hearing happens). Usually the ruling comes the next day...so expect this to be over and done with on Saturday. So far the owners have won twice and the players have won twice in the 2010 arbitration cases. Good luck to Jim Hendry on this one!
Next, some injury news: Angel Guzman is recovering from some minor knee surgury. Reports are that he is two weeks behind in his workout program...which means he's probably done for the season knowing his health history.
Jeff Gray is also dealing with a minor injury...also 2 weeks behind.
Also today, the Arizona House Committee on Commerce voted 6-2 in support of the legislation to keep the Cubs in Arizona. Too bad Bud Selig and his evil minions feel differently all of the sudden.
The other news to report today, Zambrano was taking grounders at shortstop. If the Cubs are thinking about making a move, I'm all for it. Zambrano's OPS over the last two seasons is .799...Theriot only .729...so look out Ryan!
One more tidbit...Paul Sullivan tweeted that Zambrano threw the ceremonial first ball at him today...but he missed Sullivan by a large margin supposedly (and unfortunately). My guess is that the ball was thrown as a strike to the bullpen catcher and that Sullivan is just trying to make himself feel like he's more important than he really is.
I'm sure the news will be coming fast and furious over the next few days...stay tuned!
