Yes, Fredi Gonzalez has turned down an offer to be interviewed by Jim Hendry and the Cubs. He supposedly is eying, to no one's surprise, the Braves job as Bobby Cox's successor.
"I don't want to manage your crappy team!"
While I didn't ever suspect that he had a realistic chance of being the Cubs next manager, I will maintain that I believe he was the best guy available for the job.
I shouldn't be surprised. Now I need to figure out who the best candidate is next to Gonzalez. So stay tuned for that.
Now, I'm going to go and drown my sorrows in a bottle of vodka.
