Looking for a person to unreasonably blame....

So now we get to the point of the season, when things go poorly, we all look for people to blame.

Jim Hendry...Lou Piniella...easy targets...

Aramis Ramirez...Derrek Lee...sure...

Carlos Zambrano...obviously...

But I think I'm going to blame Tyler Colvin.

Yep.  I said it.  Tyler Colvin.

It's his fault the Cubs suck.

Here is why.

The truth is...the blame has to go on a hitter...right?  While the bullpen hasn't been that good, the truth is, the offense has been horrible.

So then you have to examine why the offense has been so bad.  We have proven hitters that are playing horribly.  Some something must have happened to make these hitters suck now.

Well...here is that reason....Tyler Colvin.

The Cubs were pretty much forced to keep Colvin on the roster after his spectacular spring training.  But in reality, they had no place to put him on the roster.  They really needed a defensive replacement in the outfield...and the player for that job was Sam Fuld.

But the Cubs kept Colvin...and Lou Piniella felt obligated to play him as often as he could even though the Cubs already had Xavier Nady, Kosuke Fukudome, Marlon Byrd and Alfonso Soriano all requiring playing time as well.

So, players had to be benched.  Lineups had to be shuffled.  Players never knew where they where going to bat or if they even were going to play.

This created a level of discomfort for the Cubs hitters...a discomfort that led them to being unable to play well in clutch situations.

So there...if Sam Fuld would have come out of spring training as the 5th outfielder, this team would be up in the standings with the Cardinals and Reds right now...and they'd probably be able to score a couple runs against the power-house Pirates too.  It's Tyler Colvin's fault that Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez are hitting about as well as the pitchers on this team are.  It's Tyler Colvin's fault that Ryan Theriot can't take a walk.  It's Tyler Colvin's fault that Carlos Zambrano can't pitch well any more (because he's upset that Colvin gets to pinch hit instead of him).

Tyler Colvin is a cancer.

The Cubs should trade him now.
