Our minor leaguers are better than your minor leaguers!!!

The Cubs beatup on the A's yesterday with a 7 run seventh inning yesterday. They moved to 3-1 this spring with the 10-3 victory.

The good news was that Ryan Dempster, Sean Marshall and Jeff Samardzija all pitched well. Tom Gorzelanny also pitched giving up a 2 run homer after he hit some no name with a pitch (oh wait, that no name was Eric Patterson! Ha!). The homer? Hit by former Cubs catching 'prospect' Josh Donaldson. Both Patterson and Donaldson went to the A's in the Rich Harden trade.

Theriot had two more hits yesterday while running the bases with a finger in the air to all the fans and press that are trying crown Castro as the messiah.

More importantly, Mike Fontenot played a number of inning at shortstop yesterday after Theriot was pulled from the game. This is important, because the better Fontenot is at shortstop, the less likely it is that the Cubs will consider keeping another middle infielder on the bench (Andres Blanco).

More on middle infielders a little later.

Lee and Ramirez had sac flies to score some early runs.

Chad Tracy and Kevin Millar, both competing for that last bench spot each had a hit. And a bunch of other players that won't make the opening day roster played and got hits too.

The game was broadcast by the A's on MLB.com yesterday...and announcer was almost gushing over the fact that supposedly the online listeners were Cubs fans by a 4 to 1 margin. Hehehehe. We rock.

Today the Cubs take on the Brewers at HoHoKam...

Randy Wells will start today. This will be his second start, so I would expect he will go 3 innings.

I'll post more details as far as the lineup and other scheduled pitchers as the details are made available. The game will be on WGN radio today.

Injury report:

Lilly is making progress...he threw 30 pitches 'hard' off the mound yesterday. Everything being said is that he is on schedule. On schedule for what? I have no clue.

Xavier Nady is scheduled to finally play on Thursday. Finally. I'm starting to wonder if my optimism over the Cubs signing him is a bit misplaced and that he is far more of damaged goods than I thought. Boo.

It was good to see Fontenot back yesterday after he took that tumble into third last week.

And Angel Guzman is still a wreck.
