I drive home from work, stop for gas, change the windshield wipers on my car, and I get inside to find out that the Cubs signed Chad Tracy.
I have no clue why.
I was happy about Nady...but the Cubs had to ruin it all with this signing.
Tracy is a left handed first/third baseman. And he doesn't play either position particularly well.
It is a minor league deal, so he isn't technically on the 40 man roster. Tracy has spent the last few years battling various injury problems and sucking at baseball with the Diamondbacks.
This deal really doesn't make any sense to me, as, unlike last year, the Cubs have some options to back up at third base this year, including Jeff Baker, Mike Fontenot and Josh Vitters. And for first base, they just signed Xavier Nady as a backup.
The Cubs still need a left handed utility infielder and a right handed setup man in the bullpen...spending any money on Chad Tracy is just stupid.
Thank you Cubs for turning a good day into a stupid day.
Stupid.
