Spring Training Wars: Episode V - The Mesa Strikes Back

The Mesa city council said today that they would not approve funding for some badly needed batting cages at the Fitch Park facility that would have cost just under $700,000 to build.

The council wants more assurance from the Cubs that they are willing to stay in Mesa.

It appears the batting cages were to be used as a good will move on the part of Mesa to help convince the Cubs to stay, but was met with little reaction when presented to the Cubs. The quote from Mesa Mayor Scott Smith...

“The silence that came out of Chicago and the Cubs was deafening.”

This keeps getting more interesting.

Check out the story from the East Valley Tribune.

Stay tuned!
