Matt Capps signed with the Nationals today.
Um...
The Cubs lost out on a player to a team that might not be able to beat the Iowa Cubs.
Does anyone else think this is a problem?
Debate all you want about whether or not you thought Capps was a good pitcher and the right guy for this team. But the Cubs made it clear that they wanted the guy. And the team in one of the largest baseball markets, with one of the largest fan bases, with the third highest payroll in baseball lost out to the worst team in baseball for a middle of the road relief pitcher.
Ouch!
I'm sorry...but that signals some serious problems with the Cubs organization and stuff that needs to be addressed...
-inferior facilities
-media spotlight
-fan pressure
-the coaches
-the players
-payroll issues
-Jim Hendry is too fat
-Al Yellon
I don't know why Capps chose the Nationals over the Cubs, but you have to think some of these thing contributed to it.
I just can't imagine any pitcher would want to play for Jim Riggleman...or any position player for that matter. (I have issues with Jim Riggleman...can't stand the guy...so forgive my detour here.)
Ok...
So what do the Cubs do now?
Anyone?
Hello?
Can Marlon Byrd pitch?
